SUSTAINABLE PROSPECTS PHO704 17/18 Part-Time Study Block S1

Sustainable Prospects PHO704 17/18 Part-Time Study Block S1

Here I will be posting everything related to my second module in Falmouth MA Photography.

This module posed a few challenges for me - the main one being handing in a coherent portfolio (since it turned out I'm totally NOT used to compiling anything consisting of more than three to five images with common ground).

During this module I created more images than ever before (really - quite a lot locations and topics covered - if the are not live yet, this is only to me trying to juggle with a lot of things which in turn leads to few images making it to the Internet) and had to change my whole idea of the my work in progress portfolio.

Here is a quick list of links to the posts relevant to each topic :)

Research and marketing:

Since I had to change the idea for my work in progress portfolio entirely, I didn't even know where to start - abandoned buildings is a bit out of my comfort zone (and my primary domain) so for a start I went local and found a wonderful colleague that did abandoned buildings a year or so ago. The funny thing is, that I even know him in person (though I am not sure if he would or could remember me) and it was his exhibition that made me look at abandoned buildings at all.

Then I decided to do my homework and search for a database of abandoned buildings in my area - since I have no notion which ones are good for photography and which are not. I was delighted when I found this website (the project is wonderful, listing abandoned houses in Sofia, where I live with and address and information). I even wrote to them asking of they would like us to work together. Unfortunately, the site is down now (and it wasn't just a week ago!) so now I have to work with bits and pieces I can find in various other websites and articles (since the website that is down now was the most extensive register of abandoned buildings).

Here is a list of posts related to research I created during this module (few but long to make up for it):

Work in progress and thoughts:

This module marked a huge shift in my work and focus and had quite a lot of struggles with keeping my work in progress portfolio in check (which, it seems, turned out to be a huge issue in terms of consistency in the previous module).

That is how a sub-section of my huge project was born - I named it Beyond the Postcard - and I will be presenting bits and pieces of it within the module. I will also try to keep the work going while I do my other work since you never know what you can encounter.

The purpose of this mini project is to show people things that are within tourist areas BUT are rarely noticed unless you look for them.
